Overview of Lull Mattresses

While the Lull mattress isn't thatmostrecognized mattress on the block, they have a strong online and social media presence. Lull offers a basic, comfortable foam mattress at a reasonable price. We believe its simplicity is part of its appeal. If you are looking for a reliable, no-frills bed, the Lull mattress should be on your list. Keep reading our Lull review to see what we thought and who we think it works best for.

Here are the highlights of this Lull mattress review:

  • The Lull mattress is right in the middle of our firmness scale.
  • All the foams they use areCertiPUR-US certified, meaning the materials have met stringent standards for minimal outgassing.
  • It's a solid mattress option for petite to medium-sized people. Heavy people may not get the support they need from the Lull bed.

The Lull mattress is one of over 150 beds tested by our Slumber Yard team as we strive to review as many beds as possible in the mattress section. What can we say, we are big bed fans here and know a lot more about mattresses than the average person. So you can rest assured that the information below comes from educated and knowledgeable bed lovers who want to help you find your perfect bed.

Lull mattress firmness and feel

How firm is the Lull mattress?

The top two layers are nice and soft. But the thick base support foam is firm. Contouring memory foam provides the relief and support the average sized sleeper is looking for. However, heavier people will likely find that they sink quite a bit into the mattress, resulting in no support.

How does the Lull bed feel?

The Lull bed has an interesting feel to it. It's made of both polyurethane foam (polyfoam) and memory foam, and it feels like a super comfortable balance between the two (meaning there's no overwhelming memory foam feel). In our opinion, the Lull feels like you're lying on a soft cloud, but then the material starts to adjust to your body and you sink in a bit, like the cloud is embracing your body. We find it somewhat unique and comfortable.

Construction and design of Lull mattresses

As you can see in the image below, we sliced this mattress to see how the layers stack up inside.Overall, the Lull mattress is a 10-inch, 3-ply, full-foam bed.

Lull mattress construction:

(Video) Lull Mattress Review (Reasons To Buy/NOT Buy)

  • Base layer -7 inch foam base layer for support
  • transition shift a 1.5-inch transition layer composed of a proprietary foam blend, which we'll simply refer to as neutral foam for this review, that limits the feeling of being stuck in the mud you'd otherwise get with the top layer.
  • comfort layer 1.5 inch memory foam top layer
  • Soft cover The cover of the Lull bed is made of polyester and artificial silk. Although it is detachable, we do not recommend it because of the hassle of putting it back on. It's also not machine washable, which is the case with most online beds. If you spill something on this mattress while having brunch in bed, simply clean the area with a little mild detergent and warm water.

Lull Mattress states that they do not use harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, ozone depleters, heavy metals and certain flame retardants. Their foams meet a standard of less than 0.5 parts per million volatile organic compounds (VOC).

Lull also offers a mattress protector on their website. It is said to be 100% waterproof and splashproof. It's also machine washable which makes it hypoallergenic as you can wash away any dust, skin cells or dust mites. This is a nice addition if you are or have a clean freaksensitiveallergies. If you want a cover, note that noneAmazon mattress protectorand other retailers should work. You don't have to get Lull's.

Lull-Sleeper-Typ-Analyse

  • side sleepers

Side sleepers typically want a softer mattress that offers more pressure relief, especially for their hips and shoulders. While we wouldn't consider Lull a plush mattress, it's definitely soft and pressure-relieving enough for strict side sleepers. Given the Lull bed's soft memory foam layers that conform to your body, we'd say Lull is best for side sleepers.

  • back and stomach sleepers

The Lull mattress is a good mattress for most types of sleepers. Keep in mind that a lot of this depends on body type. Back and stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to keep their hips and shoulders properly aligned throughout the night. Beds that are too soft cause them to sink too deep into the mattress, leading to aches and pains in the morning.

  • combo sleeper

Combination sleepers tend to switch sleeping positions throughout the night. Luckily, the Lull doesn't feel stuck in the mud, so combo sleepers can move around with little resistance. Heavier combination sleepers might want to look into a firmer bed, or something that includes coils for durability.

Lull body type analysis

  • Average body types

Those under 230 pounds can usually sleep on any foam mattress and we think Lull is no different in this regard.

The bed supports average sleepers no matter what sleeping position they prefer. However, this is not a "firm" mattress. So if you're looking for something that makes you feel like you're lying on a bed of grass, the Lull might not be the right choice for you. Calm falls right in the middle of our soft/firm scale.

  • Petite body types

It's worth noting that a petite person will find the mattress firmer than an average or heavy person. The less they weigh, the less pressure they put on the mattress and the more you lie on the bed instead of settling into it. This can be an issue for petite side sleepers, as the best feel tighter.

  • Heavy body types

Because this mattress is all foam and is 10″ thick,We don't think it will be long-term supportive enough for taller people. It's just not designed for that. If you're at or above 230 pounds, you should probably check out the beds on our listbest mattress for heavy and overweight sleepers.

Of course, heavier people could get by on Lull for a while, but we just can't recommend using it as a main bed if you're over 230lbs.

How much does a sleeping mattress cost?

The price of the Lull mattress is quite affordable and competitive with other bed-in-a-box mattresses such asKasperAndLeesa. In our opinion, the Lull mattress is a solid value, especially if you don't want memory foam or neutral foam, but something in between. Here's a full pricing breakdown before you apply any discounts:

SIZEPREISAVERAGE
twin$799$810
Zwilling XL$8991.161 $

Lull mattress performance

pressure relief

The Lull mattress does a pretty good job of relieving pressure. This is typical of memory foam mattresses. The memory foam top and transition layer made from proprietary foams give you all the benefits you would expect from a memory foam bed. You should expect both pressure relief and spinal alignment support with the Lull bed.

temperature control

Memory foam is typically known for trapping heat as the material conforms around your body. However, in our Lull bed test, we found that it sleeps temperature-neutral. However, if you sleep excessively hot at night, you might want to look at a bed with some active cooling features, such as:Brooklyn Auroraor the other selection on ourBest cooling mattress for hot sleepersList.

Lull Mattress Reviews – Reasons To Buy/Not Buy (2022) (3)
(Video) Lull Luxe Hybrid Mattress Review (Reasons To Buy/NOT Buy)

responsiveness

Due to the memory foam, this bed does not respond immediately. You'll see your palm print for a second or two after you press in; That's why the bed feels like it's hugging you. While the Lull mattress is slower to respond, we didn't feel like we were "stuck in the mud" due to the neutral foam layer just below the memory foam. You can easily change your position while sleeping.

edge support

When you sit on the edge of the bed, we call the stability and sinking of the edge of the bed edge support. This is a critical factor for couples who need access to the entire bed surface or for people who like to sleep towards the edge of the bed.

Like many other foam beds,Lull doesn't have the best edge support–– The layers of foam collapse around you when you sit on the edge. So if you're a couple interested in this bed, go up a size or snuggle up in the middle. But even with limited edge support, we wouldn't say it's a deal-breaker for this mattress.

motion transmission

Lull Mattress Reviews – Reasons To Buy/Not Buy (2022) (4)

As for motion isolation,Lull is doing a good job here, so you probably won't feel your partner moving or getting up at night, which is important when you're trying to get a restful night's sleep. Even sensitive sleepers will likely be able to sleep soundly with Lull.

is it good for couples

If you sleep with a partner, there are a few things to consider when looking for a bed.edge supportand motion transfer are the two most important factors.

Lull Company Policies

Lull, like most online mattresses, give you a few extra perks for customers who decide to buy from you.

  • Free shipping and returns
  • 365-night trial
  • Lifetime Guarantee

Like mostMattresses in a boX, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with your purchase. All they ask is that you give your mattress at least two weeks before requesting a return and refund as it takes time for your body to adjust to a new sleeping surface.

Lull mattress review rating

We like Lull Bed, but we also accept that it's not for everyone. It is designed for petite and medium-sized people, not for heavy people. When it comes to temperature regulation, Lull isn't really anything special. We've found it to be more temperature neutral when sleeping than anything else. The bottom line is if you're looking for a slightly softer foam mattress but aren't enamored with a traditional memory foam feel, get this bed.

What we like about the Lull mattress:

  • It has a feel somewhere between a standard polyfoam and a memory foam. So you get the benefits of memory foam without the whole memory foam feel.
  • The Lull mattress is really affordable. It's one of the most reliable budget beds out there.

Things to consider:

  • The Lull mattress is not best suited for those over 230 pounds. You'll likely want a bed with more support, like a hybrid or traditional innerspring mattress.
  • We think the Lull mattress falls squarely in the middle of our soft-firm scale. However, small sleepers will find this mattress firmer. Side sleepers under 150 lbs should keep this in mind as a mattress that is too hard can lead to pressure points.

Answer a few quick questions to find the perfect mattress

How Lull compares to other mattresses

  • Rest vs. Casper Mattress

Lull vs. Casper have some overlap, but they don't exactly feel the same.Kasperfeels really neutral while Lull has a hint of memory foam as it is the top layer of the mattress. Aside from the feel, the level of firmness is pretty much the same and both are able to accommodate all sleeping positions.

  • Rest vs. Leesa mattress

Very similar story forLeesaHowever, we would also say that Leesa is a touch firmer than Lull. Still, they have a similar feel and can be used for all sleeping positions. We would give Lull the side sleeper benefit and Leesa the back and stomach sleeper benefit if you forced us to.

  • Rest vs. Purple Mattress

Lilais one of the most unique beds available online and doesn't feel like Lull at all. Whether that's good or bad depends on your personal preferences. Purple has an appealing, gel-like feel, and Lull has that mix of neutral foam and memory foam.

  • Rest vs. mattress available

(Video) Do Not Buy A Lull Mattress

From youis the cheapest and most popular in the luxury bedding category, at least online. It's available in three firmness profiles, none of which feels like Lull. Saatva wins when it comes to heavy sleepers, but Lull wins when it comes to prizes.

  • Rest vs. Nectar Mattress

If Lull has mixed feelingsNectarhas a real memory foam feel. The price advantage goes to Nectar, but that comparison comes down to your preferences for the feel of the bed.

How we test mattresses

  • Our testing process

Slumber Yard has been around since the bed-in-a-box craze began. Our team has personally tested over 175 mattresses to date, and we keep more than 150 beds in our office for comparison (and afternoon naps).

When testing mattresses, we evaluate the following factors:

    • Construction:We cut open mattresses to see what's inside and how it's made.
    • Feel:We check if it feels like getting stuck in mud, or if it's more of a neutral foam or soft cushion, etc.
    • Strength:We have our own firmness scale and assess how this can vary based on body type and sleeper type.
    • Pressure Relief:We test what the sweet spot is for different body and sleeper types.
    • Support and how it changes by body/sleeper type
    • Edge Support:This is important for couples sharing a bed. Would you roll out of bed or can you safely sleep on the edge?
    • Motion Isolation:In the water glass test, we can see how the bed performs in terms of movement transmission. This is another important factor for couples who don't want to wake up when they move.
    • Temperature control:We use a temperature gun to assess whether the bed warms up, stays neutral, or actively cools while you sleep.
    • Noise:This could be a problem with beds with coils or innersprings.
    • outgassing:Some beds can smell for a few weeks after unpacking and we try to warn you about that.
    • Company Policies:We also consider policies such as shipping, returns, trial period and warranty.
    • Wert:We look at the price of a bed in relation to what it offers in terms of features and quality of materials and construction.

frequently asked Questions

Are Lull Mattresses Really Good?

Lull is a great mattress for people under 230 pounds who want a bed with a medium firmness and a light memory foam feel. It's ideal for combination sleepers or anyone who wants a good balance of support and pressure relief.

How long does a Lull mattress last?

In general, full foam mattresses have a lifespan of around 8-10 years. How long your bed lasts ultimately depends on how you treat it. If you don't weigh much and take care of it, the mattress will likely last longer.

Can you turn a Lull mattress over?

You should not turn a lull mattress over. The construction of the Lull mattress won't let you roll over - the comfort layer is on top and the support layer is on the bottom. Attempting to sleep on the bottom of a Lull bed would be uncomfortable as it would be very firm. You can turn the mattress if you're worried about wear and tear, but don't turn it over.

How does a Lull mattress smell?

Your Lull mattress may have that new mattress smell for a few days, but it usually goes away completely after that time. On her website, Lull states that any odors you notice from your new bed are perfectly normal when you buy products that contain new foam, and that none of their mattresses contain any harmful chemicals. Just make sure you give your bed time to air out before sleeping on it.

The Nectar's memory foam layers are much thicker than the Lull's. This means the Nectar offers more body-contouring than the Lull. In my opinion, the Lull feels softer than the Nectar. I'd also add that the Nectar has slightly better edge support than the Lull, which could make it a better fit for couples.
